Out in the City, NYC 2013

Went to see the PUNK:Chaos to Couture show at the Metropolitan Museum of Art. I literally almost fainted from excitement. I snuck a few photos, but those guards are FAST and the lighting is horrible. It was definitely like being back at CBGBs. I cannot lie- I wasn’t just inspired, I was on fire from being in there. The energy in the rooms gets you all hopped up, and seeing Dior, Westwood, Givenchy, Versace, and Rodarte close up and in touching distance made me wild with acquisitive desire. I touched a chain and cashmere Balmain sweater. I’m going back next week.

It was also the first time hanging out with my friend Portia Makoma, who I met when she wss doing PR for the sewing studio. We ended up being photographed by these cool Italians, Mario and Antonella who are building an insanely gorgeous hotel in Bali. We’re invited to amble over there next March. And I will make it my business to be on a plane, believe me.

The best thing about having a NY friend like Portia is that she’s like some dainty fairy princess that landed ever so delicately amidst the confusion and mess of 5th Avenue. People complemented us left and right, it was super cool. She’s the kind of riend who shines so brightly, that you end up shining, too.

Today felt like the day I’ve been wanting to have since I moved to New York. A little SATC, a little Friends, and a whole lot of magic.

Photo Explorers Volunteer Project Week 3

So, the kids came back en force this week. We each had two kids and I got two girls who we will call ‘uniform’ and ‘t-shirt’ for the sake of privacy. These girls are absolutely natural street photographers. They were sneaky, they stalked people, They took the words on the page and turned them into images. They saw pictures everywhere they looked. They totally blew me away. These are the ones I took.
